ABOUT ___________________________________________________________________________  At the original Tanager Song Farm, I created an idyllic homestead with the luxury of electricity, central heat and A/C, and a few other modern conveniences. During those nine years, I raised a cow, a flock of sheep, a herd of goats, a buncha chickens, ducks, geese, hundreds of rabbits, and six wonderful children. We produced our own organic meat, canned hundreds of quarts of produce each year, and learned various homesteading crafts. We indulged our curiosity about old homesteading crafts and found that while we enjoyed some, others were way too much work. It really made us appreciate the modern conveniences! Even though I no longer have the sheep, I have stockpiled enough fleece and fiber to last me at least six years, if not a lifetime. The only activities that could not be transported to our new home were the animals. My children are still able to do all the things that they used to do, except sway in the 40 foot sapplings like monkeys. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the farm was lost in August of 2004. I am now a "Single Again" Mom with two wonderful children still at home. We are now in our third rental in four years, where we are not allowed any animals or gardening. While I reconstruct my life, I am keeping the dream of the old farm as a goal for the future. My dream of owning another small farm and growing heirloom plants with a few animals will have to wait a few years before it can be resumed. However, we are getting closer to our dream as I prepare to reenter school in the fall of 2008 and finish my certification. If all goes according to plan, I will be resuming and finishing my youthful dream of becoming a Spanish Teacher that I abandonned when I married, many many moons ago.  |
