ABOUT ___________________________________________________________________________ ![]() At the original Tanager Song Farm, I created an idyllic homestead with the luxury of electricity, central heat and A/C, and a few other modern conveniences. During those nine years, I raised a cow, a flock of 20 sheep, a herd of 40+ goats, a buncha chickens, ducks, geese, hundreds of rabbits, and six wonderful children. We produced our own organic meat, canned hundreds of quarts of produce each year, and learned various homesteading crafts. We indulged our curiosity about old homesteading crafts and found that while we enjoyed some, others were way too much work. It really made us appreciate the modern conveniences! Even though I no longer have the sheep, I have stockpiled enough fleece and fiber to last me a lifetime. The only activities that could not be transported to our new home were the animals and plants. My two youngest daughters still participate in the living history activities that we have pursued for the last 13 years. In our current rental we are not allowed any animals or gardening so this website is more of a tribute to those wonderful nine years instead of an active business. My dream of owning another small piece of land and growing heirloom plants with a few animals will have to wait a few more years before it can be pursued. Meanwhile, I am working learning skills that will prepare me to re-enter the work force. If all goes according to plan, I will soon be able to look for a few acres that lets me grow heirloom vegetables and raise a sheep or two. |
