One of the many activities that I just had to try on my Homestead was soapmaking. At first, I made all kinds of soaps for my family and friends. I gave them as gifts for baby showers, Christmas, birthdays, and for any other occasion that I could think of. It made a wonderful unique, USEFUL gift. I have three scottish grandparents and I believe that I inherited more of the Scottish frugality than even my mother. I adore a USEFUL gift and nothing was more useful in a house with six kids than soap! Especially out there in the woods. But then, people started to buy my soaps in quantity and I found myself making tons of it. That was the beginning of my small cottage industry of Handcrafted Soaps. I create my own "recipes" and I do the math the old fashioned way. I believe in quality and quantity. I make my soaps in small batches so that I can control the quality and I cut the bars large, so that you get lots of quantity for your money. My soap bars are HUGE, averaging at least 4.5 oz. They are BIG bars of soap, not those itty bitty things that disappear down the drain. True Castile Soap must consist of at least 40 to 60 percent Olive Oil to be considered Castile. I use pure food grade vegetable oils: 40% Olive, Coconut, Castor, and Palm, High Quality Essential Oils and Fragrances, and herbs and botanicals in my soaps so that they are of the highest quality. There are NO petroleum products (petroleum can damage your skin), and I do NOT use "melt & pour" bases because of the chemicals included in the ingredients. My soaps are Cured at least four weeks for hardness, and usually much longer. I am a member of the
