I no longer raise puppies.

A long time ago, when we still lived in a very big city, we dreamed of owning a farm or homestead and raising our six children in the fresh country air. We read lots of homesteading books, subscribed to the many farming and gardening journals and built lots of castles in the air. One of the articles in the "Small Farmer's Journal" profiled the Irish Terrier as the perfect homesteading dog. That was the beginning of our search for this wonderful rare breed. It took two years to locate breeders that actually had puppies available. After acquiring the first pair, we decided to have one litter of puppies. One thing lead to another and we raised puppies for a while so that others could also have one of these great companion dogs.

Over the years, I developed my own philosophy regarding raising puppies based on extensive reading and personal experience. In an effort to help "potential owners" in their search for a puppy, I have written an article called, "Puppy Socialization & the First 8 Weeks", that discusses important issues concerning the socialization of puppies during their first 8 weeks and what potential owners should look for in the breeder's environment.

While talking on the phone, I realized that many people ask the same general questions about Irish Terriers, their personalities and requirements. So, I discuss the answers from my perspective in an article of Frequently Asked Questions about Irish Terriers

I placed our AKC puppies as pets, with limited registration, so that they did not end up in Puppy Mills or with Showring Breeders.
